The Role:

ForMotiv, a rapidly growing startup at the cutting edge of web and AI, is seeking an energetic Backend Engineer to join our innovative team. We're looking for a software engineer with a strong backend focus who thrives on challenging problems and is excited to work with industry experts.

In this role, you'll be at the heart of developing our high-volume, high-speed behavioral collection platform and related tooling. You'll work with Python services in a serverless, container-based AWS environment, architecting and optimizing data solutions across multiple stores, including an S3/Redshift/Iceberg data lake and real-time Postgres RDS service. Collaborating directly with technology, data science, and management teams, you'll solve real customer problems at the intersection of web technology and AI. This position offers the chance to push the boundaries of highly performant and reliable service-based architecture.

Responsibilities:

• Work with Product Engineering, Product Management, Platform Engineering and Data Science to understand and refine service and data requirements, ensuring that services are in-line with architectural and operational needs.
• As part of the Engineering Team, provide feature and service development and bug resolution for our server and data collection platforms.
• Understand and contribute to our leveraging of AWS services. Evaluate and test new technologies to enhance ForMotiv’s offerings

Qualifications:

• 4 year computer science or related degree (highly recommended, but may be waived with relevant experience)
• At least 3 years of Python API/web backend experience is required. This position will spend a significant portion of time coding back-end services.
• 2 years of SQL experience
• Experience working with containers and other serverless technologies is highly desired.
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Solid understanding of mathematics, especially statistics
• Machine Learning or Data Science experience is not required, but is a plus
• Willingness to work with frontier AI software development tools without being fully reliant on them
• Self-motivated, proactive, organized and a willingness to learn.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, unstructured environment
• Eager to wear multiple hats and lend a hand to your teammates when called upon
